Portrait Pictures

Our most recent photography project was portraits. These pictures of consist of a singular model, a plain background, and are generally focused on the face or upper body. The idea was inspired by Richard Avedon, known for his groundbreaking work in the portrait field of photography. The last picture is an exception to this rule, as I wanted to experiment with a more noticeable background and a full body shot of my model. It was difficult to get the models to do what you wanted, as multiple cameras right up against your face can be uncomfortable and awkward. I just took a bunch of pictures, and looked for the few where my model relaxed and generated some genuine emotion. These are the final results, enjoy!

  1. The 2nd picture of Lucas is very good. I feel like you accomplished the whole goal of creating a plain background and implying slight lighting and no dramatic shadows. So, good job! looks like Avedon's pictures, ha.
