Graphic Notation

Our most recent assignment was Graphic Notation, one of the more challenging series I've faced at Drew. Graphic Notation is the representation of music through something visual, in our case, photos. I focused on more abstract shots, looking for rhythm and variation. Some shots required heavy editing to really bring out the parts of the shot I wanted to be focused on, while others only required quick simple changes.

  1. I really enjoy your first picture. the lines and shadows help convey rhythm and construction, which a song must have. the other photos benefitted heavily from the editing and the final outcome of all your pictures accomplished the concept of graphic notation

  2. So cool!! I love your use of patterns and simple, contrasting texture to convey form. These photos definitely evoke a whorl in which music would make a great representation.

  3. Eric, this is a great start to exploring graphic notation. I really like your unique approach of capturing lights and other various patterns. Most of the class focused on street art, but I like how you searched for specific patterns that are open for interpretation.
